37 people arrested in southern Indiana after yearlong drug investigation (2025)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly 40 people were arrested this week in Jefferson County, Indiana, as part of a large drug sweep.

Indiana State Police said theOhio Valley Crime Suppression Task Force and the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section joined several other departments and divisions in the initiative. Numerous warrants werepresented to the Jefferson County prosecutor on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and several other arrestswere made as a result of the subsequent warrants being executed. In all, 36 adults and one juvenile were arrested, and more than 115 criminal charges were filed.

"It just shows that these (police) are out there—these men and women are bravely out there fighting to protect our community," Madison, Indiana, Mayor Bob Courtney told WDRB News. "I hope what it does is send a strong message to the community that they are safe; they are being protected."

Some residents in area said they had only heard of drug bust of this size coming from larger cities.

"You don’t expect it, I would say,in a small town—or you are surprised," said Ellie Troutman, who opened a toy store in Madison 11 weeks ago. "So I guess I would say that I am kind of surprised the volume that that was."

The arrests will, however, make a crowded Jefferson County Jail even more full,Courtney said. Currently, there are 107 beds and more than 200 people inside.
